The wood-grain had a large echoing heart-shape that directed the face placement of the large male. The wood grain also directed the stance of the lion. And again, the smaller heart-shape within his paws was begging to become a cub. Usually lions carry their cubs in their mouths. But this was in the wood and the way it presented itself. I see the father lion guarding/watching on behalf of his cub and at the same time teaching him to watch for himself.

This one is my favorite! The gaping mouth ridges are all defined by the natural wood grain of the panels. The well planted front legs were also indicated within the wood. While painting this I knew that he would be roaring, but didn’t realize that he would be joyful instead of fearless in his demeanor; hence the title “Uproarious”

This 3D is a life casting of Michael Schiff’s torso. Because the Lion of Judah is symbolic I incorporated the cave art style warring lions across the chest. Israel is forever in turf wars and we as individuals have to fight for our own boundaries.
